I think that if possible, adding an optional toolbar item (one that you could add via the "Customize Toolabar..." interface) would be another great addition. It'd be really nice to have a toggle switch, even if you use the keyboard command, so you can see immediately if invisible files are shown or hidden.

And a bonus "if only" option would be to store the toggle setting on a per-folder basis. That way directories that I do web development in, where I'm constantly dealing with .haccess files, would always show hidden files, but other directories wouldn't.

Another way to deal with this would be to add an "always show" option where you could add a list of files to show, like ".ht*" or whatever.
